Pretty cool site, Datayers. Those are good looking dogs! I'm going to share that link with the Humane Society here in my rural area.

It's three years this summer my daughter (11) and I've been giving time each week at our local shelter (HS). It's actually become my favorite "obligation". I really hope more people will know they are needed and wanted at animal shelters, societies, etc..

This summer, a hard-working and kind-hearted 7 year old joined us in our weekly effort. She initiated her own involvement ("I want to wash dogs.") She melted our hearts and impressed us with her demonstration of hope and commitment. She made us laugh each week because she was ready to go two hours early!! During the car ride, our mantra: There are dirty dogs! Who will wash these dirty dogs?! WE will wash these dirty dogs!!

MementoMori: That is really wonderful that you and your daughter (and others) volunteer your time. It sounds like you have a lot of fun! How great that you are able to do so much for animals. I love your mantra! :D

Dr. Lam: Oh my goodness! Atilla is SO cute!!! :)

Thanks Datayers. I can't really say I do so much for animals. I guess it's kind of the starfish principle--in this case, it matters to those (few in the grand scheme) dogs. They get so dirty in their kennels and they're more adoptable if they're clean and smug like Attila there. :)

I often think people refrain from doing small things because they think hey, it's not BIG. I think that's very limiting and wrong-minded and I've been guilty of it myself.

Whether it's animals or another worthwhile endeavor, helping is good. I feel very passionately that this is something we can TEACH our children. Then too, it's never too late! to dig in and find where we're needed and wanted. It gives life meaning and makes it sweet.
