Fat Graphing & Botox for Teeth grinding

Postby dw » Wed Nov 28, 2007 11:09 pm

Dr. Lam,
I have been going to you for botox (forhead) and restylane and perlane (cheeks). I absolutely love the results! Especially the results of the restylane and perlane you injected to my cheeks. After the restylane and perlane fully dissolves, I was considering fat graphing for a more permanent solution to the hollowness in my checks.

Question 1:
Is it a bad idea to have the procedure before having children? I am not sure if the added weight and hormonal change experienced during pregnancy would affect the new fat in my face.

Question 2:
I just read on the website that botox can be injected into the muscles in the jaw. I am not necessarily unhappy with my jawline, but I do clinch my teeth when stressed and grind my teeth at night.

I was curious if botox injections would help me break this habit and relieve some of the pain I experience in my jaw muscles.

Thank you so much for everything you and your staff have done for me. I wish every business was able to combine professionalism and warmth as well as your office. Thank you, DW

fat grafting and botox

Hi DW,
I'm glad you are happy with my results. As far as question #1, I would say that you may look distorted a bit during your pregnancy if you put on the standard amount of weight during that time. Obviously, it is hard for me to predict. However, I always advise against significant weight gain that could make the face look full or even bulging. Usually, I am talking about 40 to 50 plus pounds but everyone is different. If you lose the weight back, you should return back to where I had you transplanted. I always hate to put absolutes in this forum correspondence so that I don't state something too definitively. However, in general, if you lose the weight down, you should be okay. There is really no right answer per se. You could have the fat done before pregnancy or wait until after you have finished having children if you don't want to see any facial fluctuations during pregnancy.

In response to question #2, I really do not do botox of the jawline for functional chewing issues. I do it strictly for cosmetic improvement. You could obviously try doing it for functional reasons, but I certainly would not encourage you to do that as a first line treatment. You need to consult your dentist for nightguard devices, TMJ treatments, etc.

Best,
SML
