Granulomas and cortisone

Postby Mysteryagain » Wed Jul 30, 2008 1:08 pm

I was reading about the issue with some fillers and the risk for granulomas. Some papers seem to indicate that those can be "solved" sometimes with injections of hydrocortisone... but wouldn't corticoids be useful only if injected soon into the granuloma formation? Can hydrocortisone ever "dissolve" a granuloma that has been there for a while?? (some that appear in the pics of those articles look awful!)

Are granulomas linked to fillers with collagen/animal substances in it rather than to the ones that are synthetic? or are they rather linked to the presence of particles such as polymethylmetacrylate and the like?

very hard to say with granulomas what causes them but your body is reacting to something it does not like. the best course of action with any HA is not cortisone but dissolving it. that solves that problem.
best,
