Anyone that works with me knows that I am a Mac-aholic. I love Macs, Apple, iPods, iPhones, etc. I think in another life I would have loved to have been Jonathan Ives, as chief industrial architect for Apple. I have 15 Macs in my office including a great XServe G5 (yes, a bit outdated but still awesome) that serves as my hub. I run all my PCs through my Mac Server. I have one PC for security cameras for the building and another one that is a server to run just my PC scheduler. Okay, enough about PCs. I really believe in Form Follows Function (thanks Louis Sullivan for popularizing that expression). I love it when something looks stunningly beautiful and every part of it actually serves a purpose. No extraneous elements. No things hanging out there as embellishments. I just love the purity of the Apple design. If you come to my office you will see the entire legacy of Macs, including lantern shaped iMacs, white flat iMacs, aluminum iMacs, Macbook, Macbook Air, Xserve, and Mac Minis. Someone help me with my addiction???? Any Macheads out there?
I have a Macbook Pro and also an iMac (gotta love that 22" monitor!) My daughter also has a cute little white MacBook. We have a couple of the Airport Extremes at home because I love being able to use our laptops all over the house. My mom's office also uses strictly Macs/Apple and has been for about 15 years - it's the only way to go in her opinion (and mine)! Years ago, she sometimes had a hard time finding software, but oh how the world has changed! They use FileMaker Pro for all their database stuff and it's awesome! (I work at home for her now and just connect remotely to the server using a VPN Tracker). I love technology! It's amazing that I can do anything I need to from home and it's all secure. I don't have an iPhone - I know some people that do and there have been some glitches. I haven't done much research yet, but I hear they are working on a new model. If you have any feedback about that, I'd be interested to hear it. I love my iPod and and I'm constantly on iTunes checking out new music. My husband uses a PC at work and has a laptop and I tease him all the time that he should come over from the dark side and join me! His office uses all PC's so he doesn't have much reason to get a Mac, except just because I think he should! But, he loves to go to the Apple Store with me - we walk thru there all the time to check out the newest, coolest stuff! I noticed when I first watched some of your videos that your office uses Macs! One thing I got into a while back was the iMovie program. When I first figured out how to use it, I would stay up until all hours creating stuff. It was so fun! I made a couple of really cute movies of my kids put to music - talk about addictive!!
Yeah, another machead!!!! That's awesome. All the videos you see that I shot on YouTube and on my site I edited myself on iMovie. I own Final Cut Pro but never learned to use it. The iPhone is simply the most awesome invention known to mankind. I would say that even if I were not a Machead (okay, tainted information). On my Motorola phone, I couldn't figure out how to program anything or use any of the features. Forget texting. I'm not a teenager for God's sake! However, I now surf the net, check out pages, call numbers from my Google search, watch my videos on there, text easily, and if you love the iPod, you will be blown away at how much easier, more intuitive, and fun the iPhone's iPod interface is. DON'T BUY AN IPOD TOUCH. GO STRAIGHT TO THE IPHONE. Yes, the new edition is out last weekend. I have gone twice to get one but could not stand the lines. I think I may try again tomorrow. I have had a terrible dilemma between the black versus the white one. I know the black is "cooler" and usually I default to that color but there are two reasons I have been contemplating the white one. First, it is only sold at the 16GB level so there is a "cache" of having the white. Plus, I sort of am tired of the black one. My staff has told me that I would be an idiot to buy the white one because it is too feminine. I talked to another guy the other night who told me that the white line is pretty much dead on all Macs, and he is right. So I am going to go purely by my aesthetic gut instinct when I go to the store and hold it. That's how I do my surgery! best, sml
I just got back from the Jerry Seinfeld concert. (My patients got me front row center for the show!!! How nice!!!) He was joking about the iPhone. He was hilarious. So another thing I am passionate about his humor. I have fun every day at work. My staff and I always laugh and joke. Also, I am passionate about my patients. Even though my patients were so incredibly kind for getting me those tickets (and I will always cherish such a special gift), their written note to me melted my heart! Thanks so much T and M for the kind words, kind gesture, and experience of a lifetime!
That is awesome! Wow, your patients must really be happy to give you such a great gift!
I love comedy shows! I haven't been in years, but around 1999 my husband and I saw Jeff Dunham live and he was amazing! He's a ventriloquist and does multiple voices at once. Amazing! Maybe some of you have heard of him, but if you haven't check him out. I'm sure you can even buy his DVD's online.
Next weekend we are getting a sitter and going out to dinner with friends and then to their place to watch the Dana Carvey HBO (something about the Squatting Monkey). It's supposed to be hilarious and I'm really excited to see it! I loved Dana Carvey on SNL and think he has a brilliant mind!
I just saw Dana Carvey live a a couple of months ago. He was totally hilarious. I was dying. His imitation of Al Gore is so funny I was on the floor. Dana Carvey performed for the Collin County Children's Advocacy Center of which I am a major sponsor. It is a group that helps raise money to protect abused children. Dana Carvey at one point had a conversation (of course with himself) between Senior Bush, Bush Junior, Bill Clinton, Ronald Reagan, and Al Gore. Wow, that was totally crazy!
I bought an iPhone on Monday and got the Invisible Shield by ZAGG today in the mail. I applied it but since I got the black one, on the back, and solely on the back (the front is beautiful) I still have a lot of air bubbles, unfortunately. They're inconspicuous but it's bugging me that they're there. I'm still happy with it-- I want to show off its beauty, not bulk it up and hide it! Thanks for recommending it; I wouldn't have bought it had it not been for your blog.
P.S. I was told I was going to get an e-mail from you on Monday but I'm not sure I did (about our phone consultation)?
hi nick, i'm glad you got the zagg. it is amazing. a lot of my friends have had difficulty applying it. i guess you need to be a surgeon? lol. i looked at your photos, and i really don't think i won't help you much with the rhinoplasty and chin. i really looked hard at your photos and i don't think i will make enough positive impact on either one to make it worth your while. i truly am sorry. my staff has really enjoyed speaking with you, but i am very selective in my patients and would feel as if i would waste your money. i hope you are not angry at me. best, sml
Haha maybe so! I cut off the edges because they were giving me too much trouble so we'll see if it lasts.
Well, I appreciate your honesty. What do you think the problems were? I had spoken to another surgeon who said a rhinoplasty would help, but the thickness of the skin is a problem (as I had read here, too). Would you say I should not look for another surgeon (I've oftentimes read here that you advocate against looking for a surgeon that will cut you just for your money)? Thanks.
Lol. I just remembered something else for which I might be a teensy bit perturbed! Today I arranged my orthodontist appointment for after our consultation and asked for a half-day at work to accommodate our phone consult! Hahaha. But don't worry I'm not mad.
i'm a 'mac' convert in the sense that most gadgets I use are from apple - except my PCs. I have been brought up to use PCs, and while I do agree aesthetically you can't beat a Mac, I just find that it's too big a change for me to convert to a Mac esp with all the things I do on a PC.
BTW, the Zagg invisible shield rocks btw. It's the only thing I'll use on my iphone. The air bubbles actually dissipate on their own over time - at least from my experience. Just a tad bit expensive. I suppose that's what happens when someone patents a clever piece of plastic!
yes, zagg all the way. here as a machead (and for full disclosure i do own stock), buy a sexy mac and use it as a PC since it is totally native with intel chips. then when your heart is open for a new try, boot up Mac OS X. it is a total no lose situation. that way you can drip your saliva (as i have done but not pulled the trigger yet) over those unibody laptops! i want to be jonathan ive!
i may indeed do that, once i've saved up enough to get by first!
and you can be jonathan ive. while you're at it, i will be dr. lam.
speaking of steve jobs - one of his weaknesses is his stubborness. Apple stock has still been up and down for the last 30 years - Felix Dennis of Dennis Publishing has said that it's mostly because Steve won't listen to anyone else - it's made him a great visionary, he's obviously very very good at what he does and apple won't be where it is now if it wasn't for that vision and his great marketing abilities... but at the same time it's created the inconsistent up and down cycle. But with the iphone, I think it may have changed everything
