Hi there!
I was thinking of how nice it is when we stumble upon sites on the Net where we find good info on subjects that interest us and/or good, interesting people who know about the subject and/or as passionate as us regarding some matters.
The Internet is such a large large "universe" that it's almost impossible to be up-to-date regarding new sites that might show up regarding those passions of ours.
My everyday job is about updating certain people regarding their field of work, which implies searching for info on Internet (mostly) all the time.
I was thinking that it would be cool if we told each other when and how a given subject interest us (topics and what type of sites you like to read, like blogs, academic sites, etc. or what specific info you have been trying to find or what type of communities you would like to learn about) so we would all have those subjects in mind when "perusing" ourselves the Net.
It has happened to me already to find a site that I knew x or y person would find interesting, or people that shared their interests, while they knew nothing about it. Giving those referrals is a nice way to feel useful to others and help each other at doing the best we can with our passions, or a way to be helped ourselves.
What do you think? Would you like it if people here would inform you when finding a cool place on the subjects you like or with a link to an answer you have been looking for?
I am all up for helping with referrals when I can! So you can tell me what those subjects are if you want. I mean "clean", wholesome, "normal" subjects, of course! And I think it would be better for everyone and even a rule to basically refer to sites not linked to a specific person or company as in spamming people, nor bring up particular names, and stay away from "hot" , difficult topics such as politics, religion, etc. (unless the interest was tied to something totally UNcontroversial regarding that type of matters).
Still, some people might feel embarassed to admit they are interested in something because they might fear it is too silly in the eyes of others (say, I know men who are very interested in cosmetics and dermatology but feel uneasy about saying it outloud, wondering if that makes them look too vain or womanly) or because it concerns an issue that they don't want to tell just anyone because it is linked to something they are self conscious about (like those looking for specific info or communities for obese people trying to lose weight, etc.etc.).
In those cases, the info could be sent by PM and not posted openly, if you prefer.
Of course all this implies and requires respect for each other's passions, interests, concerns and respect for the confidentiality, that is, even if we shared info or links here, of course we would not share info of the people who write or ask with others or outside the forum.
Say, an example could be, for those who are animal lovers: "what webpages can I visit where by simply clicking on a link or doing something simple I could help at the sponsors of the page helping shelters and animal rescue activities?". Folllowing the same example, sometimes there are pages with the same purpose in more than one language and the language barrier makes us miss on doing something simple that could help others (say, animals, in this case) a lot. If the message over a button is in French or any other language but that we know for sure that just clicking there does the job of helping, it does not matter that we don't know the language and we can help other people interested in the same causes than ourselves.
That was just an example.
Don't know, just an idea. Maybe it needs polishing and to consider other aspects that I have not thought of yet.
Hope you like the idea and that we can end up helping each other in sustatining, developing and even sharing our passions.
Hugs everyone!
