Amount of Injection Sites & MicroBtx effect

This section of the forum is dedicated to discussions on various surgical techniques for facial rejuvenation, including fat transfer/fat grafting, browlift, blepharoplasty (cosmetic eyelid surgery), facelift, etc. Also, this category includes questions on hand rejuvenation via fat grafting. (Of note, Dr. Lam does not perform body rejuvenation except for hand fat grafting)

Amount of Injection Sites & MicroBtx effect

Postby Mysteryagain » Tue Jul 08, 2008 11:21 am

Hi Dr. Lam!

I read with interest your article on Microbotox (I had missed it previously, sorry for having asked you about the subject when you had actually already posted about it! ).

Very enlightening.

I am 35 years old but look younger. My main concern are pores. Anyway, I am interested in using botox as you suggested it: to prevent/fight ageing, not to have a quick-fix. Actually, I don't really have marked lines that require botox. Faint lines only. But even before reading your comments, I had figured out that if I treated my faint lines as soon as possible and then as often as possible (that is, before the line forms again), that I would weaken enough the muscle as to not go back to ground zero even if I aged (in time, years, months) in the meantime (duh).

I was happy to read about your thoughts on botox and realize that my "idea" was not wrong after all!

Now, the issue is that I also would like to have the few units of botox I need injected by having many sites of injection as opposed to more units in one or two spots.

As you might remember, I live in South America, so going to visit you is something that I plan to do, but that I will be able to actually get to once in a while. So, being pragmatical, I need to have botox here where I live.

I want to have many injection points so I can benefit from the "microbotox effect" that "shrinks" pores, while preventing/correcting lines.

The issue is that I know docs won't want to use many injection sites but only two (glabellar area) and then again... because I don't have but faint lines (because I've been doing botox for a while! if I always waited to have marked lines to go ahead, I would now have marked lines!), doctors will look at me suspiciously if I ask them to inject me in the manner you do. I already have a hard time getting them to inject botox before its effect "fully" wears off (since I don't want to have the line and go back to zero to treat the skin again!) because they think "I don't need it"... or that I should wait for the lines to be more marked. They probably think I am nuts or one with a dysmorphic body disorder. But no! I know my lines are faint and that one normally would not think of injecting botox... but they are like that because I have been injecting botox!! and want to use it in the manner you suggest!

How to ask docs to inject me before the botox totally fully, completely wears off (line back to the way it was before) and to have many injection sites and not one or two, so I get a more relaxed, microtobox effect from the injections??? I don't know how to do that without them refusing because they think it is useless or assuming I am imagining lines and am crazy.

I don't think any understands (has thought of) your theory of botox as prevention.

I feel frustrated!! Any suggestion on how to deal with that and what to tell them???

boy, that is a tough one. the answer is that i don't have an answer. if you ask them to watch my videos, they will be offended. i think you just have to search for someone that fits you right. to come for me for this botox is a bit ridiculous. something like fat transfer is fine but try harder to find someone there.
best,

Thanks for answering, Dr Lam :)
I asked just in case, but I had assumed you could not give me an answer to that, don't worry.
Sadly, doctors sometimes (here, anyway) take comments or reference to papers, sites describing "new" procedures or researches as a critic: as if one was implying that they are not good enough, that they were not updated enough (well, sometimes that's the case) and I also think they fear the patient might "know too much" and then challenge their opinions
I wondered if maybe I was imagining the worst and that maybe they wouldnot take offense, that's why I asked you, but from your answer I can tell that you think too that they might feel offended.
Oh, if people were less narrow minded!

You are right, fat transfer is more like what I have in plan when going finally to Dallas. As much I would do "redo" myself  with many procedures while there, I realize it is not practical nor realistic to want to have botox with you regularly (I hope at least once yes).

Hugs a ton.

my botox rocks!

Postby dr. lam » Tue Jul 08, 2008 10:51 pm

once you have had my botox it is difficult to go back to your regular botox. my suggestion is not to try it with me. that way you won't know what you are missing. don't taste the beluga baby! (sorry for the arrogance. just having a little fun.)

*LOL* You are right! It would be me who would walk with a long "beluga"-like face, annoyed at the contrast between your treatment and the one of the others :)
