Large pores and acne scars

This section of the forum is dedicated to discussions on managing, treating, and correcting acne scarring. (Of note, Dr. Lam is focused principally on acne scarring rather than on managing the ongoing condition of acne, which a dermatologist would be better equipped to address.)

Large pores and acne scars

Postby Singh » Fri Jul 04, 2008 10:39 am

hi, i have shallow acne scars over the majority of my face and large pores on my nose and cheeks close near to my nose. i was wondering what you would think would be the best treatment for me. i am indian and have medium skin. i was told that my skin is a '4'. my main problem is my very visible pores on my nose and the cheeks. Are there any effective treatments for this (intradermal botox, plasma etc)

also, i read in one of your answers to another post that being extremely underweight can have an affect on the appearance of the skin (i cant remember exactly what you wrote) im 6 foot tall and weigh 122 lbs (bmi 16.5) but i would like to be about 170 lbs which is good for my height. will gaining weight help to plump up and reduce some of the fine lines that i have on my forehead (like Fat Injections / Fat Grafting)

Many thanks

Singh

pores are a nightmare to manage, especially in type 4 patients. i really don't have any magic formula. even when i "sell" a patient on this treatment who is very fair skinned using for example high energy plasma and fat transfer, i do not truly "sell" them on it since pores are very hard to consistently correct.

for your forehead, botox sounds as if that is the way to go. it can often help both wrinkles and texture if done well. i tend to inject many small doses to get both a texture and wrinkle improvement there. again no guarantees. fat grafting is unsafe there. i answered this question yesterday and also about 8 months ago. check the archives.

best,
sml

thanks for the reply ... is there a reason why pores are so hard to treat ? what about intradermal botox, ive read that this can be affective for large pores, but can this be done on the nose ?

perhaps, but i do not do that. the cost is exorbitant and the results don't last. i simply have no experience injecting other parts of the face.
