Art in Fort Worth

Postby MementoMori » Sat Jul 05, 2008 7:05 pm

Hey Dr. Lam and anyone wishing to see great art (speaking of great art earlier in this thread...)--Art Institute of Chicago is renovating or something and they're lending 92 works to the Kimbell in Fort Worth. Collection includes great impressionists and will be there through early November '08.

CHARLIE...we visited the National Gallery a few years ago. So much beauty I really couldn't take it all in. Also visited the British Museum-WOW. I long to return and see more of your wonderful country!

sounds nice. i like the fact that this forum is not just hardcore plastic surgery issues but we can talk about art and English weather! at times we can be a bit serious and at times a bit more playful. :D :) :o  okay, getting a bit carried away with these emoticons.

the American Museum was born to create an understanding of the closeness of our two nations.
In the late 1950s two American citizens, Dallas Pratt (1914-94), a psychiatrist, and John Judkyn (1913-63), an English-born antiques dealer, had the idea of establishing a museum of American decorative arts on British soil; the American Museum in Britain opened its doors to the public in July 1961.

With extraordinary dedication and sense of purpose the two founders had travelled throughout the US collecting objects intending to show how Americans lived in the past, to illuminate the present and to encourage international understanding. The founders, who lived near Bath, chose Claverton Manor as the location of their museum

there is a website which makes interesting reading. :)
