Restylane/ perlane or fat graft????

Postby question » Wed Jun 18, 2008 11:34 am

Hi Dr Lam

I don't know if a fat graft is appropriate for me as I am young but i am so paranoid about restylane and perlane giving me an allergic reaction. I am very sensitive to drugs/ substances and it would be just my luck it is bound to cause a reaction. What are your thoughts on this?

Also there has been some stuff in the media about fillers causing underlying damage/ scar tissue to the skin over the years. What do you think about this?

here is the great news with restylane and perlane: if you have an allergic reaction, you can knock it out with vitrase, a dissolver. in that case, it is one of the safest products out there (other than your own fat) that will minimize allergic reaction. further, it is a product that is non-animal based (unlike the Hylaform version) and any "antigens" (things that cause allergic responses) have been greatly reduced since 1999. further, the product that restylane is made of does not have allergic issues in most cases because it is the same molecular structure in all animal species including humans.

as far as fat transfer, if you are under 30, i would have to talk to you about long-term plans with fat transfer in your case. between 30 to 35 i am less concerned. after 35, my concern drops very low. not to scare you, i just have an incredible responsibility that my results stay safe with you over your lifetime. if you want to read my issues with people under 30, just do a search on this. i just answered this question in detail. i have done quite a few people under 30 but they have been thoroughly counseled and consented.
best,
sml

sure, that can happen. however, we all develop a little scar tissue. in my opinion it strengthens the collagen and creates more firmness in treated areas. that's my opinion. i think the scare obviously is overblown.
