Extreme dieting after fat grafting

This section of the forum is dedicated to discussions on various surgical techniques for facial rejuvenation, including fat transfer/fat grafting, browlift, blepharoplasty (cosmetic eyelid surgery), facelift, etc. Also, this category includes questions on hand rejuvenation via fat grafting. (Of note, Dr. Lam does not perform body rejuvenation except for hand fat grafting)

Extreme dieting after fat grafting

Postby blueeyedog » Mon Nov 19, 2007 12:34 pm

Hi Dr. Lam,
Thanks for this very informative section on your website. You are so committed to what you do and I feel very comfortable having my procedure performed by you.

I am scheduled for the facial fat grafting in December and I am very excited about it. I have a question about weight loss after the procedure. I am already fairly lean and in good physical shape. However, being in a body building competition at some point has always been a dream of mine. Of course, that would mean getting my body fat extremely low to have ripped muscles. Would the fat cells transplanted to my face plump back up after being on such an extreme diet if it's just for a short period? I wasn't sure if you lose fat cells or do they just shrink up.

I am looking forward to seeing you soon!!

great question: yes, they should. i have not seen them not. however, i would probably give the grafts time to fully "take" like 6 months if possible at a minimum just in case. look forward to take care of you in december.
best,
sml
