Some questions regarding acne scars etc.

This section of the forum is dedicated to discussions on managing, treating, and correcting acne scarring. (Of note, Dr. Lam is focused principally on acne scarring rather than on managing the ongoing condition of acne, which a dermatologist would be better equipped to address.)

Some questions regarding acne scars etc.

Postby yoojin » Thu Jun 12, 2008 12:29 pm

Hello Dr. Lam,
I spent the last couple of hours looking at your videos and reading your website, its all very good. It's clear that you are an honest and knowledgeable doctor, which is very hard to find these days.

I'm 20 years old asian male and currently on accutane. I'll be done with it in a couple of months and as soon as I am, I hope to fly down there for consultation/treatment.

I've suffered from acne for as long as i can remember and now that im finally clearing up with accutane, Im left with a bunch of scars and red marks which simply brings my self-esteem down, not that it isn't down already with my acne.

I have many "craters" and "icepick" scars which are still red from hyperpigmentation from the acne. I understand that silicone treatments are the way to go after looking at your video. Would receiving the silicone treatment affect the rate of the hyperpigmentation marks fading? My red marks tend to fade real slow. and is it okay to treat a scar that is still has hyperpigmentation?

Also, I read about your double eye lid surgery and I like to know if I happened to be a good candidate for the treatment as well as the silicone treatment(maybe TCA cross too), is it possible to receive all 3 treatments on the same day? is it possible to receive a ballpark figure on how much the double eyelid surgery would cost?

Thank you for your time and sincerity Dr. Lam.

YOUR RESPONSES ARE IN ALL CAPS:

THEORETICALLY, SILICONE COULD PROLONG THE HYPERPIGMENTATION. IN MOST CASES, IT SHOULD NO. I WOULD NOT TREAT A SCAR THAT IS STILL RED. HYPERPIGMENTED IS OKAY. I WOULD HAVEV TO SEE IT.

DOUBLE EYELID IS $2800 INCLUDING ALL CHARGES. YOU CAN HAVE ALL 3 TREATMENTS THE SAME DAY SO LONG AS THE TCA SCARS ARE NOT BEING TREATED ON TOP OF THE SILICONE ONES. USUALLY THE TWO ARE DIFFERENT, I.E., TINY ICE PICKS RESPOND TO CROSS WHEREAS BIG HOLES RESPOND TO SILICONE. AS YOU KNOW, SILICONE AND CROSS REQUIRES A FEW TREATMENTS (2 TO 4) SPACED A MONTH APART. ALSO, I PERSONALLY LIKE TO TAKE OUT THE SUTURES MYSELF FOR THE DOUBLE EYELID AT 7 DAYS POST BECAUSE I AM VERY GENTLE. HOWEVER, YOU COULD FIND SOMEONE BACK HOME TO DO IT.
