Sun Avoidance after fat grafting

This section of the forum is dedicated to discussions on various surgical techniques for facial rejuvenation, including fat transfer/fat grafting, browlift, blepharoplasty (cosmetic eyelid surgery), facelift, etc. Also, this category includes questions on hand rejuvenation via fat grafting. (Of note, Dr. Lam does not perform body rejuvenation except for hand fat grafting)

Sun Avoidance after fat grafting

Postby sunsun » Sun Jun 08, 2008 7:31 am

Hi Dr.Lam

How important is it to avoid the sun after fat grafting?i know in general one should avoid the sun, but one surgeon i consulted with said that going in the sun after fat grafting has been performed can lead to PIH. what are your thoughts on this?

the only PIH (post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation for those who don't know what PIH is) really only affects the entry sites. so those 6 points could stay pigmented for several months or longer if you go outside in the first 6 weeks. remember i am only speaking about my patients not someone else's.
