Fat Graft Harvesting Site

This section of the forum is dedicated to discussions on various surgical techniques for facial rejuvenation, including fat transfer/fat grafting, browlift, blepharoplasty (cosmetic eyelid surgery), facelift, etc. Also, this category includes questions on hand rejuvenation via fat grafting. (Of note, Dr. Lam does not perform body rejuvenation except for hand fat grafting)

Fat Graft Harvesting Site

Postby kerouc » Sat Jun 07, 2008 7:44 pm

Dr lam:

I'm curious as to where you typically harvest fat from.

I have little to no fat to spare in the rear-end. Would the
belly be a viable option?

Also, could this procedure be permormed at the same time
as a chin/jawline implant procedure? Have you notice improve-
ment with mild jowling after inserting a chin implant?

Thanks..

1. the butt is not great in most people. i use it only as a spare. the belly is usually fantastic and the belly/thighs are the most common area for me to harvest. when someone is really thin, i have oftentimes got to go to several locations like belly, butt, lower back, and thighs.
2. yes, i can perform it at the same time as a chin implant. i have done that before. (there is a video journey of a nice gentleman in whom i did a fat transfer, blepharoplasty, chin implant, and facelift).
3. jowls are improved the most with a facelift and a fat transfer. okay with a fat transfer for smaller jowls, and a little less impressive with a chin implant. pretty good with both a chin implant and fat transfer together.

Thanks.. I've already gone the facelift route and have no interest going
through that again.. Couple of more questions..

1. How long do your results typically last with fat transfers?

2. How much realistic downtime could I expect?

3. I live in Chicago. Is this possible to manage?

Thanks

1. my fat transfer results truly are permanent minus aging and minus the need for a touchup in less than 5% (which I cover the expenses for) and minus the dip that can occur between 2 to 6 months post (that recovers slowly but surely thereafter).
2. i hate to answer the question on recovery because everyone has a different perception of it. however most people take 7 to 10 days off from work. but you really look distorted for the first 2 weeks. i had one lady complain to me afterward that she was totally unacceptable in public at 2 weeks and i had one lady complain to me that she was miserable at a month. obviously, that is why i shoot those video diaries and journeys to give you realistic ideas of recovery. they are not meant to lie to you but to give you a ballpark. i saw a lady on friday that looked so good after 1 week that i had forgotten that i had done her fat transfer the week before. she will NOT be appearing on my website as a recovery video because she does not represent the norm. there will always be extremes of recoveries or extremes of perception of that recovery but in most cases a couple of weeks. that does not mean feeling bad, just swellling that would probably be best reduced in perception by others by wearing sunglasses.
3. very easily. on any given week sometimes 80% of my patients fly in for my work. fat transfer, which is entirely incisionless is so easy because people fly back out shortly thereafter. if you want to proceed either email constanze@lamfacialplastics.com or call 888-866-3388. i do book out in advance so plan ahead.
look forward to meet with you if you decide to proceed.
best,
sml

Dr. Lam..

Thanks again for your prompt response..

I have had fat transfers done twice now. Once with a facelift and
once without. Both times the fat dissapeared rather quickly.

How is your procedure different and why will the fat remain in place?

Thanks!!

honestly, i have answered this question so many times i can't do it again. please scan back to the earlier pages. i have about a 20 paragraph response why my fat lasts. it really does. my results are beautiful and get better over time. if your fat does not hold, my touchup is free. that is how confident that you will not need one. please don't waste your time with anyone else's fat transfer. i know it is hard to trust now that you have already undergone it twice. my fat transfer is completely different. when you are ready to proceed, let me know.

i probably would. everything is a case by case basis. in an ideal world i would wait a year from injection (unless you burned through it earlier). if radiesse were placed into smile lines or some other line, that would NOT interfere with my work and we could do an FT pretty much immediately.
