My hollow eyes

Postby Zetta » Thu Oct 11, 2007 11:06 am

Hello Dr. Lam,

I am a 27 year old female and I have had hollow eyes or circles around my eyes for as long as I can remember. I would like to come in for a consultation. I would also like to know if I am a candidate for fat grafting?

eye hollowness with fat grafting

Postby dr. lam » Thu Oct 11, 2007 11:49 am

Hi,
Thanks for the question. You may be a candidate depending on what I see. First of all, for young women like yourself I want to make sure that you don't have other problems that may need to be investigated first. For instance, if you have recurrent or persistent swelling around your eyes, you may have either a low thyroid condition or chronic allergies. That should first be evaluated. However, if you are just having hollowness around your eyes, that may just be you and in that case fat grafting can work very well to help camouflage that problem. That most likely is your problem. Sometimes, sun damage especially prior to the age of 20 can have lifetime effecs with advanced or premature aging. That could also be the causative factor (or it was simply that is how you were born.)

Also, if you have color issues, in other words, circles due to a darker color that may or may not be helped with fat grafting. Fat grafting would help the shadow effect of the exposed bony orbital rim but would not necessarily work if the color is due to thin skin with exposed muscle or due to the presence of veins near the skin surface. I hope that helps. If you would like to schedule a consultation, the local number is 972-312-8188 or 888-866-3388 or you can use our click to call method from almost any page of our website or our media center which is free for anyone living in the United States.
