silicon/gortex implant

Postby coco » Thu May 15, 2008 2:05 am

Dear Dr Lam,

Is it safe to combine a silicon implant with a layer of gortex underneath? Are the two materials going to clash with each other?

Thanks
coco

if you are talking about silicone micro droplets (i.e., liquid silicone), there is no problem. i do it all the time. if you are talking about a solid silicone implant, i have no idea why you would want the two on top of each other.

I read on a forum that a girl got 1 layer of gortex underneath her silicon implant because her doctor felt his highest silicon implant wasnt high enough for her bridge. I never heard of it being done before, so just curious if you knew its safe?

That is totally bizarre because I can get huge silicone implants and huge goretex implants. as a proof that the two products can intermingle safely, Implantech makes a Gore-Tex coated silicone implant so that two materials are bonded together. As stated, I categorically do not prefer solid silicone in the nose. Although you can get good results with it, my experience has been less than stellar in the majority of the patients that I have treated.
best,
