Fat Grafting

This section of the forum is dedicated to discussions on various surgical techniques for facial rejuvenation, including fat transfer/fat grafting, browlift, blepharoplasty (cosmetic eyelid surgery), facelift, etc. Also, this category includes questions on hand rejuvenation via fat grafting. (Of note, Dr. Lam does not perform body rejuvenation except for hand fat grafting)

Fat Grafting

Postby bos67 » Wed May 07, 2008 8:57 pm

Hi Dr. Lam, just had a couple quick questions. Does someone in their late thirties have to have an EKG done before fat grafting. On your web site it only says people over fifty but I just wanted to make sure I wouldn't need one, as I am in excellent health with no family history of heart problems. Also as I am from out of town would it be possible to have the procedure on a friday and fly back east on saturday before the swelling got to bad and then fly back in about two weeks for the followup visit. Thanks for your time.

Hi,
In general, it does not sound as if you need an EKG but I am not the boss. My nurse dianne is. EKGs are pretty inexpensive but you can email dianne@lamfacialplastics.com and give her your specific question. She is my nursing director and in charge of all policies here at LFP.

Second, most of my patients fly back after a day or so. However, my nurse will state we recommend patients to stay longer based on the fact that they had sedation. Again, speak with her. Just trying to be official and not send mixed messages.

The swelling is the worst 2 days after the procedure (occasionally 3 days after) just to let you know.

Most people do not fly back for a postop visit (although I would love that maybe 6 months to a year later so that you and I can compare the before and after results). At 2 weeks there is nothing to do or see so most people have no postop visits. That being said, if you stay 5 to 7 days, and you are unfortunate to have a bruise (that is an inch outside of the eye), I can laser that bruise down at no charge so that it would convert from a darker splotch to a lighter pink.
