Lip Roll Procedure

Postby ak » Sun May 04, 2008 11:41 pm

Hi, Dr. Lam! I'm interested in augmenting my lips permanently with your help, but do not wish to do so with Sili. I don't think injections will look good on me since I have extremely thin lips. I've been researching for a while about lip roll procedure, which leaves stitches inside the mouth, producing no visible outer scar. Do you also perform this? If you do, can you give me a ballpark estimate? Thanks in advance.

Sincerely,
ak

i am not familiar with it. i only know of 2 types of lip advancement procedures. one along the border of the red and white lip and one under the nose. i think inside mouth cutting makes no sense. most people cut inside the mouth to reduce the lip. i am NOT A FAN of lip advancement procedures for several reasons:

1. visible scarring in the central face, which is a risk, especially for the upper lip border advancement.
2. a really unnatural look, especially when the upper lip is advanced and not the lower lip. i think we have really overfocused on the role of the upper lip (please see all my videos and before/afters). it just looks terrible.

interestingly, i work with a lot of patients who fly in for lip reductions, and they had their inside of the mouth worked on, leaving them with months of pain and no results. i am always willing to learn about new techniques. however, i also believe sometimes we have to cut through the hype and marketing. i am not an aggressive lip surgeon. i tend to look for softer, poutier lips. size is not the key. artistry, shape, and balance are. i know that is hard to convince someone unless they just look at my before and afters.
