skin resurfacing

Postby martine2005 » Sun May 04, 2008 2:59 am

I have visited several doctors regarding skin resurfacing.
I do not really have wrinkles (after a bad and pulled macs lift , probably needed to correct with fat grafting) but I have some sun damaged skin around mouth and chin area and some pigmentation issues.

Most of the doctors did not want to do it because it would thin my already sensitive skin and i am prone to hyper and hypopigmentaion.

Only one would evenually do it but said you must take in consideration the possibility of these hyper hypopigmentation and avoiding all sun light for 6 months, also you must be able to do a good make up for six months to cover up.

My skin became hypersensitive and thin after doing some ipl treatments , some light peels at home, and use of retin A.
I stopped all treatments as it is summer time and hardly impossible to avoid complete the sun.

I am left with some patches , dark as well lighter ones around the dark one, I think from the ipl treatment, maybe a combination of everything.
IThe retin A creme also contained hydroquinone.
Maybe it was used to quickly after the ipl but the doctor said one day leter is no problem.
I am using now a natural lighter (from schrammek) only on the dark patches to try to ev en out my skintone.

What is your opinion about laser skin resufacing for me ?
Is there onother option to make my skin smoother and get rid of the sun damages skin around mouth and chin.

Thanks for answer.

obviously, i can't answer this question without seeing you in person. however, here are some thoughts:
1. stay out of the sun. the sun can cause uneven pigmentation.
2. consider hormone balancing. hormones can really screw up your skin.
3. IPLs in rare cases can actually cause increase in pigmentation, especially if the settings were too high or you have dark skin.
4. consider a sun block in addition to your bleaching products.
5. if you use bleaching products and you are out in the sun even moderately, THEY WILL NOT WORK and if you use prescription products not only will they not work but Retin-A and hydroquinone can cause real problems for you in the sun like burns, etc.
