Botox of the Jaw

This section of the forum is dedicated to discussions on various surgical techniques for facial rejuvenation, including fat transfer/fat grafting, browlift, blepharoplasty (cosmetic eyelid surgery), facelift, etc. Also, this category includes questions on hand rejuvenation via fat grafting. (Of note, Dr. Lam does not perform body rejuvenation except for hand fat grafting)

Botox of the Jaw

Postby tak85 » Sun Apr 06, 2008 5:41 pm

Hi Dr. Lam,

Firstly, thanks a lot for all the advice you're providing! I am considering botox on my jaw to correct the square appearance. I just have a couple questions about the procedure:

Are there any long-term negative effects associated with botox on the jaw? Will my muscles weaken and sag down my jaw?

In order to maintain the appearance, will I have to have botox injections every year forever (and is this safe to have so much botox, so often)? Or is there some permanent effect?

Approximately how many injections along each side of my face will I receive?

Thanks in advance!

BOTOX JAW REDUCTION IN DALLAS, TEXAS

THE TECHNIQUE HAS BEEN AROUND SINCE THE EARLY 90S. FIRST PUBLISHED IN A BRITISH JOURNAL. I THINK LONG-TERM EFFECTS OF BOTOX ON THE JAWLINE ARE SAFE BUT THERE ARE NO TRUE PUBLISHED STUDIES TO THAT EFFECT.

In order to maintain the appearance, will I have to have botox injections every year forever (and is this safe to have so much botox, so often)? Or is there some permanent effect?
THIS IS UNCLEAR. SOME KOREAN STUDIES HAVE REPORTED PERMANENCE AFTER A FEW TREATMENTS. THE PROBLEM IS THAT I DON'T NECESSARILY BELIEVE THEM. I HAVE BEEN DOING THIS FOR YEARS BUT I HAVE NOT BEEN THAT DILIGENT WITH KEEPING UP WITH MY PATIENTS WHO COME IN.

Approximately how many injections along each side of my face will I receive?
FIVE A SIDE BUT THE DIFFERENCE WITH MY TECHNIQUE IS THAT YOU REALLY WILL BARELY FEEL ANYTHING. HARD TO BELIEVE IT UNTIL YOU'VE TRIED IT. I CALIPER MEASURE EVERYTHING SO MY RESULTS ARE TRULY SYMMETRICAL (MINUS YOUR OWN ALREADY PRE-EXISTING ASYMMETRIES.)

I had another question.... Have you ever heard of RF (radiofrequency) for reducing the jawline muscle? I read about this on an asian website and I was wondering if you had any information on it. The website said the results are better than botox to the jaw since the results last 5 - 7 years. Can you verify any of this, and your opinion on it? Thanks!

good question. no, i don't know about it. i offer RF to tighten skin but it most likely is a different type of RF. sounds like you are talking about something mildly invasive in which you cook the muscle with a probe. if you are using superficial RF that should most likely do nothing. if you are doing a deep cooking RF by sticking a probe in there, I guess that would be safe but cannot further comment about safety and efficacy.
