OLD FACIAL SCARS!!!Pls. Help. I'm hopeless

This section of the forum is dedicated to discussions on managing, treating, and correcting acne scarring. (Of note, Dr. Lam is focused principally on acne scarring rather than on managing the ongoing condition of acne, which a dermatologist would be better equipped to address.)

OLD FACIAL SCARS!!!Pls. Help. I'm hopeless

Postby j_ambita » Tue Mar 25, 2008 1:57 pm

Good Day, Dr. Lam

It's my please to be a member of your website. Please give me your expert advice as to how you're going to repair the damage on my face caused by my old scars.

With the way my facial scars look. Is there really a possible way to make my scars LESS noticeable? These scars have been my frustration ever since I got these long time ago. My name is Jay Ambita and I am 27 years of age based here in Manila Philippines. The dilemma of these scars has been haunting me for 15 years. When I surfed the web (PLASTIC SURGERY TUTORIAL: SCAR REVISION @ youtube) and found your Scar Revision tutorial videos, your expert demo keep my hope alive. I just need to know how you would make my facials scar look subtle. Here are my facial scars and I hope you take time to take a look at them:

1. Here's one on my forehead. I got this scar when I was just 12 years old when I fell to the ground with my face first bumped on. The doctors did 8 stitches to close the cut. Most of the stitch marks have gone as I grow old. However, it looks like a cross-shaped scar because of the deep suture mark in the middle of the scar. People can't help but notice it when I am talking to them.

2. Here's another one across eye level hit by a sharp edge of a coconut shell thrown at me by my childhood playmate. The portion with brown color really makes the scar look OBVIOUS.
Thank you so much.

Hi Jay,
I reviewed your photos and answered your query in my PM. In short, given your skin color and the maturity of the scar, I will be honest you will go through quite a bit of recovery. In other words, it will look much worse before it looks better possibly even greater than a year's time. Also, given your distance it would be wiser to find a surgeon in your country to take care of you. The reason is that I will most likely need to help you with after care, which will be too much of an expense. It would be free for me to do it but your travel expenses would be prohibitive. After care may include some dermabrasion to make sure the result is as smooth as possible. Read my geometric broken line repair section in my scar revision faqs section under FAQS.
best,
sml
