Dermal Grafting

Postby melon » Fri Mar 07, 2008 10:21 pm

Hi Dr Lam,

I would like to know your opinion on dermal grafting for acne scarring.I know someone who had great results with this procedure. Also, what do you think of needling for acne scars?
I have moderate acne scarring and I've been researching for a suitable treatment. However, there are so much info and results are varied among different people, making it real hard to decide on which treatment to have. What is the downside of silicone injections?
Thanks in advance.

Saline injection

Postby melon » Fri Mar 07, 2008 10:30 pm

Hi Dr Lam,

I have another question about saline injections.I'm an active member of a very popular acne site.I often read about members who have good results from different treatments. Some members reported dramatic improvements from saline injections. What's your opinion on that? Thanks again.

I think saline can work but I don't have much experience putting saline in since my silicone works so well. I think the silicone works at many levels. It obviously fills the depressions but also serves to splint the scar like saline does. Finally, since silicone is placed with multiple sticks with a large bore needle, I always tell my patients that the needle effect can help the result even more down the road. I personally think silicone is very safe. You have to read my previous blogs on silicone so i don't have to repeat myself every time. If you are interested, let me know. You can always start with saline and needling first. Btw, I don't do dermal grafting.
best,
sml
