1 Month out fat grafting question

This section of the forum is dedicated to discussions on various surgical techniques for facial rejuvenation, including fat transfer/fat grafting, browlift, blepharoplasty (cosmetic eyelid surgery), facelift, etc. Also, this category includes questions on hand rejuvenation via fat grafting. (Of note, Dr. Lam does not perform body rejuvenation except for hand fat grafting)

1 Month out fat grafting question

Postby ottoman » Thu Mar 06, 2008 4:16 am

Hr Dr.Lam, I hope you don't think this is a stupid question but i just want to be sure.

I'm one month out from the facial fat grafting procedure and last night I went out with some friends to a turkish restaurant. At the end of the meal my friends decided to order a Turkish waterpipe (are you familiar with these
? also called a Hookah). You smoke fruit flavoured tobacco which is filtered through a glass base filled with water, and is generally shared between everyone at the table. At the time i got caught up in the moment of the night and i participated in the turkish waterpipe tradtion after the meal. This morning i feel worried, I know one should not smoke after a plastic surgery procedure, do you think that I have done any damage to the fat grafts? I don't smoke cigarettes in my day to day life.

Thank you Dr.

Hi,
If you are one of my patients, then I can comment. If you are not, I shouldn´t. In summary, don´t worry. You did not hurt the fat grafts with such a late and limited degree of smoke inhalation unless of course you smoked the peppermint flavor (just kidding, don´t worry). I was given a hookah by one of my Turkish friends but did not want to have that around because it looks like another type of smoking device. My friends now keep the hookah and I myself indulge a couple of times a year. Now, don´t go on a hookah frenzy. My opinion is to abstain from further intake for the next couple of months but you´ll be fine. No harm done.
Best,
SML
