silicone, lip size and veneers

Postby pocohall » Sun Nov 04, 2007 10:41 pm

Hi Dr. Lam,

I will be flying in from San Diego soon to consult with you about lip enhance with the microdroplet method using silicone.

Due to bruxism, I am having my teeth fixed cosmetically with veneers. As I am sure you are aware, veneers can be sized and shaped to an individuals taste.

My goal is to design my new smile so that when I speak people can see my teeth better rather than only when I smile. Why? Because in my view not many people walk around smiling constantly revealing their pearly whites so a smile should be designed so that your teeth can be seen when you are conversing with another individual.

With that said, should one have their lips enhanced first and then design and customize their veneers, vice versa, or does it matter considering your conservative approach to lip enhancent (a good thing)?

Thank you from sunny San Diego!

silicone lip enhancement and dental work

Postby dr. lam » Mon Nov 05, 2007 2:56 am

That is a good question. I would tell you that as we age the upper lip does deflate and lengthen meaning that you will lose some of the degree of seeing your upper teeth. With aggressive (which I do not do) lip filling, you can actually lose some of the teeth exposure. Now, even subtle lip filling may block a little more of your teeth so that is important to know. Given the fact that the typical difference that I create that looks stunning in most instances is the bottom lip, a bit counterintuitive, I think I can create a great looking lip for you without compromising too much of your upper teeth show.

okay, all of that being said, i would hesitate to give you an opinion until you clear it with your dentist. here are my thoughts, if your dentist says he can adjust your teeth a little to give you more show after a lip treatment, then i would say go with the lips first. if he says that the teeth length is pretty much set, then you could go either way. does that makes sense?
