Fat grafting and broken blood vessels

Postby belinda » Wed Jan 23, 2008 2:29 pm

Hi Dr Lam

Can fat grafting cause new broken blood vessels to appear on the face? I am prone to them.

Thanks

I seriously doubt it. I have never seen that. The only thing that I can say is take a close look at all your red vessels before your procedure since you may notice more afterwards only because you will be looking at your face with close scrutiny again and again after the procedure, but you should not have any new vessels as far as I would think.

I have never seen that. If so, I can laser it down.

i don't do lasers!

Postby belinda » Thu Jan 24, 2008 7:50 am

I have had a bad experience with lasers so wouldn't want another one near my face! How likely is it that this would cause a broken vessel? I have heard of this happening with fat grafting at the injection site. Thanks Dr Lam!

1. I have done hundreds of fat transfers and have NEVER seen this. So I can't imagine it happening.
2. My lasers are really nothing. I would perform it myself. This is not a type of laser that burns off the skin. It is focused specifically on eliminating vessels with pretty much zero downtime. I also use that same laser to manage any bruising should you incur it.

Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately a "gentle" laser used on my face to remove broken blood vessels actually melted some fat in my face, which is the very reason I am contacting you re fat grafting! So i am VERY gun shy about lasers. Regarding fat loss caused by lasers, I am at month four now and the loss is continuing gradually. Do you recommend waiting for the fat loss to stabilise before fat grafting?

Yes, wait until you are certain it has stopped. I make no promises as far as blood vessels are concerned.

how long??

Postby belinda » Thu Jan 24, 2008 2:00 pm

That is devestating to me. I don't know how long the fat loss will continue for? I have heard it can go on for a year and a half? Do you know how long it could be? What would happen if I didn't wait till it ran its course before I had the grafting? Thanks so much Dr Lam. This is such a horrible situation and I really need advice.

I really couldn't tell you. Obviously, I don't want you to pay for a procedure that goes away. Wait until it stabilizes.

but if i couldn't wait

Postby belinda » Thu Jan 24, 2008 3:48 pm

If I felt like I couldn't wait, would it be ok to get a graft done? I feel like my skin is starving for fat, with patches of it disappearing under my skin. Thanks Dr Lam

Sure, that would be fine. We can always do a touchup. I usually charge only a few hundred for that.
