Red Veins along the orbital rim and fat grafting

This section of the forum is dedicated to discussions on various surgical techniques for facial rejuvenation, including fat transfer/fat grafting, browlift, blepharoplasty (cosmetic eyelid surgery), facelift, etc. Also, this category includes questions on hand rejuvenation via fat grafting. (Of note, Dr. Lam does not perform body rejuvenation except for hand fat grafting)

Red Veins along the orbital rim and fat grafting

Postby 1up » Sun Jan 20, 2008 6:44 am

Hi Dr. Lam,

I'm having fat grafting done to my tear troughs in Two weeks, but i also have some small and superficial red veins in that area. I've read in other posts that you make no promises about the fat transfer's ability to hide such problems, so I was wondering if there is anything that can be done afterwards to alleviate the problem if fat grafting doesn't help (i'm not having the fat grafting done for this problem, would just be a bonus if it helped). I'm thinking lasers or the like, but what sort of effect can these lasers have on the transferred fat, and which lasers do you recommend (if that is even the route to go)? The veins aren't right up by the eye, they're along the orbital rim which is quite low down in my case.

Thanks for the help! and thanks for the interesting video logs, they're always informative

managing red vessels

Postby dr. lam » Sun Jan 20, 2008 10:02 am

Hi,
I look forward to take care of you in 2 weeks. Lasers inside the orbital rim are unsafe. However, if they are at the orbital rim or lower, the skin can be tugged down lower to make the treatment safe. I would have to see. If they are superficial red veins, then my KTP is unrivaled. I can trace out each vessel and knock it out. Remember, however, that vessels do come back over time due to recanalization, hormonal changes, aging, etc.

If you have dark blue vessels that are deep, very few lasers can truly get rid of that, as sometimes it is more of a muscle issue than a vessel issue. I would have to see them. If you have more of a generalized red rosacea, then my photofacial is much more effective to eradicate "background noise" of the skin, as I like to say. I would have to see them.

Fat grafting and vessels as I always say is an oversell. I think shadowing etc. is definitely improved but actual vessel reduction would be a bit of a stretch to say the least. That being said, you will be very happy with my fat transfer for other reasons (rejuvenation, restedness, youthfulness, facial balance, etc.)

Finally, remember that I always like to help people help themselves. Oftentimes, these small vessels are only noticeable to you when applying makeup or under close scrutiny. That being said, if they bother you or I think they are truly visible, we can manage them. I always am trying to be respectful for the money that you spend with me.
best,
sml
