Fat Harvest sites - trouble after harvesting

This section of the forum is dedicated to discussions on various surgical techniques for facial rejuvenation, including fat transfer/fat grafting, browlift, blepharoplasty (cosmetic eyelid surgery), facelift, etc. Also, this category includes questions on hand rejuvenation via fat grafting. (Of note, Dr. Lam does not perform body rejuvenation except for hand fat grafting)

Fat Harvest sites - trouble after harvesting

Postby Alexis » Mon Dec 10, 2012 10:02 pm

Hello Dr Lam

Thank you for your forum

I just had a fat transfer and am on the thin side so all the fat was taken from my butt ( which I loved along w/ rest of my body prior to this) - now after 1st injections of cells/fat my butt is no more :(

It is mishapen, flat like a right angle board and hollow in some places. It now sags and forms uncomfortable creases where the back of my thigh used to meet it smoothly

It not only looks scary but feels awful when I walk, stand, work out because it hangs, jiggles and makes uncomfortable creases back there

The top of the butt is still in tact along with a large roll of fat that used to be the bottom part of my butt and in the middle - nothing, it's gone & flattened / concave completely

I'm so depressed as I use my body for work (model etc) and am no longer employable - plus it feels horrible having it hanging back there making folds & creases

I don't have tons of fat - some in inner thighs & a bit tiny in outer but I wanted to know if you have any ideas of how to remedy this issue that I had no idea would be a 'side effect' of the procedure

I don't know if contouring would make it better or worse / causing more droopiness & sagging or if there is another option...

I sure hope so & hope I can afford to fix this

Thank you

Alexis

hi alexis,
unfortunately, i don't have a good answer for you. hopefully, if you are early out, things will heal better in a short while. if your skin is a problem and it does not heal well, then radiofrequency techniques like Accent XL or thermage may help but they need to be done gently because at aggressive settings you can potentially lose more fat (rare but possible). as far as adding volume back into the body, that is something i rarely do and it appears you do not have enough fat elsewhere to contribute. obviously, do not do something dangerous and stupid like inject high volume silicone in there as that is long-term very very bad and risky. you could use restylane but that would be very expensive. i know that in europe there is something approved for breast implants known as macrolane and if you find a reputable person over there maybe he could explain the pros and cons to you so you could decide the safety of using large dose injections of hyaluronic acid. also, again something i don't do but since you say this is a career issue, you could consider solid (not liquid) silicone implants or some variation, which is a popular Brazilian treatment. those are just my thoughts even though i don't specialize in doing this for the butt.
