Mole Removal from Chin without facial hair loss

Postby firedan5415 » Wed Nov 07, 2012 1:41 pm

First of all - I wanted to personally thank you, Dr. Lam, for all of your time in answering questions here.

I have a mole on my chin that mostly flat, but the pigment has recently gotten a bit darker and it's bothersome.

It's covered in facial hair, and I'd ideally like to avoid a scar and hair loss.

I'm not sure if this mole would be removable via a scrape, or if I would need a full excision.

What are my options to remove the mole and keep my facial hair? :)

there is not an easy solution here. if you burn it, the risk is return of the mole plus possible hair damage. if you excise it, you risk a small scar and possible hair loss as well. you may want to leave it. i know that does not sound good but i don't have an assured way of accomplishing what you want here.

When you say burn it, are you referring to essentially cutting it off and cauterizing it?

I'm not looking for perfect baby skin, but I don't want to have a huge patch of missing facial hair. I shave pretty regularly, so it wouldn't be that big of a deal if lost a tiny bit of hair.

What would you recommend if you were to tackle this?

yes cautery. i would say the best option is cutting it out but understand there is a high likelihood of some hair loss, hopefully minimal plus you can't shave for 2 weeks after the procedure and after that you need an electric razor for 2 more weeks. as i mentioned, i think you should leave it.
