Silicone Nose Injection

Postby Girly » Tue Nov 06, 2012 7:05 am

Hi Dr Lam,

I had a silicon injection 26 years ago and now i want this remove and get rhinoplasty and get a proper procedure to look better. I'm concerned that removing the silicon may damage the tissue of my nose. Is this type of silicon difficult to remove? What will happen if they are not able to remove all the silicon? Is this a possiblity? or Will this create an infection? I will appreciate your reply as i am intending to get the procedure done in February.

hi,
if you had an injection and not an implant it is impossible to remove the silicone. there simply is no way. if it is an implant (solid piece) then you can do that.

Thank you so much for the information. For obvious reason I will not go ahead of getting them removed. But can I still get both sides of my nose trimmed ? Will this create complications?

you can get an alar base reduction and it should not affect your silicone injections.

So i will get an alar base reduction , but at the same time is possible to get the tip of my nose enhanced a little bit by putting a filler? And out of curiosity, can you still inject a filler to the nose if it already has a silicone? Will this create infection? Is the silicone injected to the nose cancerous? I really do appreciate your time in answering all these and sharing your expertise . I just wanted to get as much information before I do something drastic to my nose. And thank you for your patience.

i would only do the alar base reduction if it would actually make you look better. that is something that is really confusing but most people think they need it when they don't or it could make the tip look disproportionately bigger. everything is about balance. also, when you do the alar base reduction it has two major drawbacks: one is scarring (i always tell patients that they could see a fine line there no matter how good the surgeon is) and second is you must keep the natural curvature of the nostril o/w you risk getting what you see like Janet Jackson with a cutoff appearance.

The tip of the nose really cannot be effectively injected. The skin is too tight. You can inject the bridge but really not the tip. It needs surgery with grafts. No silicone is not cancerous and yes you can fill on top of fillers. hope that helps.
best,
