VI-peels and the Dermapen

VI-peels and the Dermapen

Postby JNwosu » Fri Nov 02, 2012 6:24 pm

On my cheek area, I have quite a bit of somewhat shallow ice pick scarring, scarred pores, and box scars around the apples of my cheeks. I've consulted with a plastic surgeon here in Austin about what I should do about them and he suggested four VI-peels and then some work with the Dermapen. My scarring is considerably bad but not the worst in the world, so I guess he thinks this procedure will help. Some of my box scars have these really awkward edges that are kind of raised a bit...like micro-keloiding or something. I figure the VI peel may help with sanding down my skin and smoothing the texture along with helping with my insane amount of dark hyperpigmentation. But what do you think, though? And could you tell me more about these silicone injections you tend to mention in other posts? Are they permanent? Does the silicone stay inside your skin forever? Would my scarred pores/ice pick/box scars benefit? Bear in mind that my biggest scars are barely half a centimeter but are fairly deep to have a shadow casted in them with the harshest lighting..and I'm also 19 years old/African American (medium brown skin). Is my skin mature enough for such revision? One more thing, if I never have you as my doctor, do you recommend anyone in the Austin area who can take well care of my scarring?
I know I asked a lot of questions, but I hope you're available to answer them. Thank you for your time :)

hi,
a few things. i am very cautious when it comes to peels in darker skin patients. in fact, i simply don't do them because of the risk of increasing pigmentation and worst of all losing it. i also believe that peels do absolutely nothing for scarring. they cannot raise a hole. i prefer as you know silicone treatments to fix these indents permanently as i believe it is the best long-term solution (yes permanent) for acne scarring. i don't have anyone i can recommend in austin because i think very few have the skills to do silicone injections safely. :)

Oh okay, but do you know anything about the Dermapen? Also, would it be wise to get silicone injections at my age because I may still have some growing to do and I don't know how that will impact the fillers in my skin.

i think silicone done conservatively should age fine in acne scarring areas. i don't think the dermapen will do almost anything either.
