Fat grafting for cheeks and jawline

Postby johnny » Mon Aug 20, 2012 8:55 pm

Hello Dr. Lam,

I am interested in enhancing my cheeks and jawline. My understanding is that fat grafting usually provides more natural looking results so I am interested in using that technique.

Specifically I am interested in perhaps adding 4 (maybe 5mm) to my cheek bones and my question is this... If you add fat to the cheek will it provide you with structural enhancement (make cheek bones more prominent/chiseled) or will it make your cheeks simply look fatter?

I also wanted to ask you if you have enhanced jawlines using fat grafting and whether the results that you got made the jawline look chiseled? How much projection (more or less) can you get with fat grafting on jawline (assuming multiple treatments of course?)

Thanks,
Johnny

if you want chiseled then implants may be a better way to go. a little bit of fat or fillers can enhance a chiseled look if you place it right. too much will just make it look fat. i do not do angle of mandible or cheek implants. yes, when i do fat transfer and the jawline needs some to become stronger i do put some fat in those areas as well. it works well in moderation and as part of a global strategy.

I am not looking for a huge change. Like I said, it's more about treating specific areas by adding 3-4mm at most. In your experience is that too much? If that's too much, how much would you say would be a realistic projection achieved by fat grafting?

I also read that when placing fat grafts close to the bone they behave more "bone-like" (have a more solid feel) is that true?

3-4 mm is reasonable with fat. placing it near bone does not make it bone like but it can look more like bone but not how it would feel per se.
