post-mole redness

Postby cajun » Sat Jul 21, 2012 8:35 am

Hello,

12 days ago, I had a small mole shaved off of the tip of my nose by my dermatologist. For the first week, I applied Aquaphor and Bandaids on a daily basis as recommended. I also cleaned the wound with hydrogen peroxide after showers. While healing, a 1/2-inch red ring appeared around the small wound. Over the past 5 days, as the wound has healed and become nearly unnoticeable, the red ring has diminished and become almost non-existent. I discontinued use of Aquaphor, Bandaids, and peroxide approximately 4 days ago.

Now, I woke this morning to find that the red ring had returned with a vengeance, looking as it did 1 week ago. What could have caused this? Is this simply another stage in the healing process? My dermatologist said that the healing process would be 1-2 weeks, and the 2-week date will be this coming Monday. Basically there is no scar from the mole, just this ugly red ring. There is no pain, no discharges, and no major swelling (except for the ring).

I have a follow-up with my doctor in 1-1/2 weeks. In the meantime, any information or advise that you could give would be greatly appreciated. Please help me to understand this situation.

Thanks!

FYI: I also suffer from rosacea. Could that ailment be affecting the healing process of the mole removal?

i really have no idea since it could be so many things: infection (would typically have pain and tenderness), hyperemic blush (normal part of healing) but may benefit from laser, irritation from products, etc.

Thank you for the quick response! There is no pain or tenderness in the area, so I'm assuming that it's not infected. The wound itself and the initial red ring healed nicely in one week. During this past week, I was feeling very good about the way my nose had healed so fast. But the red ring came back over the past two days, which I found odd. What extactly is hyperemic blush and what is its function in the healing process for a mole removal? So, in your professional opinion, there's no way that my rosacea could be affecting this healing process? I'm scheduled for a follow-up appointment with my dermatologist next week. Hoping it gets better soon. Thanks again. :D

Also, there is another small mole on my nose near the one that was recently removed. Unlike the larger reddish-brown mole that I had removed, this one is a bit smaller and skin tone in color. The aforementioned red ring has completely surrounded this mole, too, causing it to look something like a white polka dot in a field of red. Just thought that information might help you in your analysis. Thanks again.:D

This morning, I woke to find that the red ring had expanded from 1/2 inch to about 1 inch -- up my nose and further out to one side. Now the wound is just barely contained within the ring; it's on the periphery. It does seem a bit more pink than red now, however.

as you know, this forum is not intended to give you medical advice. i simply cannot do that. you really need to ask your physician what is going on.
best,
