Fat graft scientific side

This section of the forum is dedicated to discussions on various surgical techniques for facial rejuvenation, including fat transfer/fat grafting, browlift, blepharoplasty (cosmetic eyelid surgery), facelift, etc. Also, this category includes questions on hand rejuvenation via fat grafting. (Of note, Dr. Lam does not perform body rejuvenation except for hand fat grafting)

Fat graft scientific side

Just curious if you take anytime to study or research the latest findings regarding fat grafting removal or reduction processes? Just wondering if you plan to implement that into your practice at some point. Also can you say for a fact that fat graft overgrowth is a definite result of weight gain and not some other cell division process possible stem cell related?
Seems there is so much yet to be known about this dynamic filler. I ask respectfully because you seem like the type of doctor that would be totally interested in that unknown aspect and would probably/hopefully make a video explaining your theories on this in the future..in with case I would subscribe to your videos:)

thanks for the query. i agree that we don't know everything about everything we do. i have been doing fat transfer for close to a decade and have seen very safe results. i have only seen 3 patients who have had robust faces due to weight gain. my own mother is 5 years out and about 2 years into it she had gained 20 pounds and to me really looked too full. she has lost the weight and still looks simply amazing. i truly think the stem cells cannot cause growth of fat but in fact i do not think they do that much (possibly some skin rejuvenation but i always like to downplay that). fat is very stable so long as one stays relatively stable with weight.
