bumps on left cheek

This section of the forum is dedicated to discussions on managing, treating, and correcting acne scarring. (Of note, Dr. Lam is focused principally on acne scarring rather than on managing the ongoing condition of acne, which a dermatologist would be better equipped to address.)

bumps on left cheek

Postby tests » Fri Jul 13, 2012 1:22 pm

Dear doctor lam, i have a few (2) bumps on my left cheek that have basically destroyed my self-esteem. I think one of them was caused from a big pustule (i applied a topical benzoyl peroxide, the name of the topical is duac), and for some reason the pimple never healed. I should have just left it alone instead of applying the topical. Anyhow, here are the photos

As you can see in the photos, i have two bumps that look like sebacious hyerplasia. These are not "distinct" bumps, in the sense that they are not like moles or other bumps that could easily be cauterized. These bumps seem like they are raised and at the same time part of the skin.

I am asking you doctor if you could remove these bumps with minimal scarring. Even if i get some scarring, it is better than having these bumps on the face. What type of scarring would most likely occur if you removed these bumps? Thanks for your time

A few more things doctor lam.

1)If it is sebacious hyperplasia, would this work? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iw6hSctJRvk

2) I had a dermatologist use electrodesiccation (cauterization) and it did not seem to help.

Thanks

what you are showing is what an aesthetician does and it really will do nothing for them. personally, i would use cautery but if that failed a handgun of nitrous oxide may do the trick.

thanks for the response dr.lam. So these bumps/lesions can be removed?

Is the handgun of nitrous oxide a tricky procedure? I.E. do would i need to make an appointment with you (but i live in southern california, so i wud have to fly) or could a qualified dermatologist do the procedure?

thanks for the response doctor lam.

What exact equipment should i make sure a dermatologist has in their disposal in order to get rid of these bumps?

Is it just called a handgun of nitrous oxide, or is there a specific name for it?

Also, is it a risky procedure?

cryoprobe but don't worry about it. it is not fair for a dermatologist to have to own the exact model i have.

no, i don't know any there. really, these kind of skin issues are better treated by a good dermatologist than a facial plastic surgeon.

dr.lam, i just want to ask you one last thing. Judging from the photos i posted, do these lesions seem very easy to remove and with minimal scarring?

thanks

honestly, i don't have a lot of experience removing them so i can't give you a good answer to that question.
