W plasty on my forehead scar? (picture)

Postby Rick1618 » Mon Jul 02, 2012 12:09 am

Hi Dr. Lam

I am asian male with tan skin color. I have a scar on my forehead back in 12/24/2011. It been 6 months already and I still see little redness. A lot of peoples said my scar is not that noticeable any more just little red and a straight line. But it been bothering me and I want it less noticeable then now. So I went to see two plastic surgeon and they both said the scar is actually not so bad and healing really good. One said I don't need revision and maybe just photo laser will help the redness down and it should be a lot less noticeable. But the only concern was since I am tan skin color. I might get hyperpigmented, so they told me to wait till fall or even later to see if I still need the laser treatment. The other plastic surgeon believe in surgery more then laser. He suggested to get a W plasty scar revision first, and make it less noticeable then a straight line . After couple months if the redness still there, then get laser treatment to help with the redness down. If the scar get little thick after , he then suggest to get dermabrasion. He said laser and dermabrasion should be a option after the surgery is done. His afraid I'll get hyperpigment too. So I don't know which one to go with. I don't know if W plasty can really make it less noticeable or if I should just try the laser and just get the redness down and live with a straight line. But I am afraid I will get hyperpigment , so I really dont' know which one to go with. Dr. lam I hope you can give me some expert advice after looking at the picture. Thank you for your time too.

well, in certain lighting it looks and in others not so bad so it is hard for me to give you advice without actually seeing you. from the photos i would suggest a geometric broken line repair over a wplasty since the gblr is so much better. it truly irregularities the line far better. i would pre botox it 2 weeks before for maximal healing. in short, it looks as if surgery would help you but i can't be for certain without seeing you.
best,
