Prominent mole/wart upper lip below nose

Postby inaminute » Tue Jun 19, 2012 4:23 am

Hi Dr. Lam. I am female in my early thirties and I have a wart or mole on the upper lip right below my left nasal wall. As far as I know, I carry this since I was born. My mother has the same feature exactly in this location, too. I already consulted my dermatologist two years ago. He told me that it is not necessary to have this one removed but in case of removal there would be a chance for a scar formation. It also seems to be quite deep.

In the last couple of years I think the mole increased a bit in size and prominence.
I am thinking about having this removed because it is so eye-catching but I do not know what options I have besides shaving or laser. Is there a chance that removing the mole will leave a crater?

Thank you for your advice in advance.

this is a mole that borders on being a bit unsightly so i can understand why you want to remove it. in my opinion because of that i would consider taking some risk that it could look worse and still do it if the risk is worth it to you. i would probably shave and burn it, wait 6 months to see how things are in terms of contraction, then cut out the depth of it and advance the tissue inward toward the nose. yes, you will have a scar but if done well it may be worth it.

Hi, Dr. Lam,
I came across to this forum since I have been considering removing my mole on my face.

It happened to be I have very similar mole as OP but on right side of nose.

I read that your reply to the OP and you mentioned it could look worse if removed.
Could you describe how worse it could look? (redness? or big scar..? )

yes, in short, scarring and redness but unlikely any nasal tissue distortion since it would be closed in a line along the smile line.
