Permanent lip augmentation

Postby pinknailpolish » Thu Jun 14, 2012 9:38 pm

Hi Dr. Lam,

I love your conservative style. I am looking for a permanent lip augmentation method to balance out my top lip with my lower lip. I've tried a few fillers and while I love their results, they are very expensive and only seem to last a week. I would like to keep the cupid's bow intact, and avoid having my mouth look wider. Just want some volume in the upper lip. What method would you recommend? Do you also recommend something be done to the bottom lip? Ideally, I would like my lips to have the volume as the singer Cassie Ventura. I also am thinking of avoiding silicone implants, because I do not want any issues with the implant moving when I am smiling.

thanks for the nice words. if your lips are the lips in the bottom image, honestly i would not do any further augmentation. they look good and any more could look fake. sorry to say that.

Hi Dr. Lam,

Thanks for your honest opinion! :D

Is there a difference in how Silikon changes the lips as opposed to Juvederm or Restylane? I was hoping for a small change similar to what I achieved with the fillers, but I don't want to risk looking fake permanently.

Apologies for butting in here. I suspect you are disappointed with Dr Lam's response, but he is absolutely right. I was very interested to see how he responded to your query. Had he agreed with you then I would have had second thoughts about arranging the consultation with him that I am just about to phone his office to book up.

Your lips are lovely - perfectly balanced and a great shape. I suspect the majority of women out there would be more than happy to have lips like yours. You look very young and sound just like me when I was that age. I can completely empathise with you, but please don't make the mistake I made 20 years ago of getting my heart set on having lips like the latest popular celebrity. I did that to my detriment and have had to live with the consequences of a botched permanent surgical lip augmentation for the past two decades. You are only young once so enjoy your youth the way you are and I can promise you that by the time you are 40 you will be glad you did and if you need a little filler at that age due to natural thinning of the lips you have the option. All the best.

Thank you Mary - I'd rather hear an honest opinion that's kind of disappointing than be talked into getting something I don't need. I'm just curious as to why Dr. Lam thinks Silikon would look unnatural when I've done Juvederm and Restylane with minimal changes (in a positive way). I had paranasal implants done last yr and it made my top lip thinner. Kind of upsetting to me,

thanks everyone for your comments. it is not so much that silicone makes you look faker than other products, it is just that 1) you don't need any more augmentation than what i see in your lips, and 2) mary is right. silicone probably won't age well for you because if i think right now your lips are already ok, then it would probably be just slightly too much which over time will look too much when you age. watch my video on aging of lips and making lips proportionate to one's age. i prefer temporary products for someone in his or her 20s and i rarely do permanent in someone in their 20s. only under a couple of conditions. first, they have a very very very thin upper lip with enough gum show that it will descend over time and still be ok and they are more willing to allow me to work on the bottom lip, which does age well. the problem is that 20 somethings want relatively aggressive lip fillers that won't age well for them. what may seem conservative to you is actually in reality aggressive to me. i agree with mary for you to stay safe. unfortunately, it is not so much greed on the part of surgeons who do this but i hate to say lack of artistic sensibility. i just see ugly work in all age groups that makes me want to vomit. i fix more lips than probably anyone in the world, correcting a lip almost every day to every other day.
