Upper lip reduction

Postby neallampel » Mon Jun 04, 2012 7:25 pm

Dr. Lam, my upper lip is quite full. My lower lip is aesthetically well balanced with my face.
I think my case may be more complicated. The mucosa of my upper lip is pretty OK. However, there is a lot of fullness in the white part of my upper lip. This fullness extends from the mucosa/white lip interface to where my lip emanates from my nose and laterally extends about half way to the corners of my mouth. My question is how much tapering of the white tissue is realistic/advisable, and could such a procedure be readily performed in your office using your preferred dental block? Thanks in advance, Neal. The good news is that I am local.

i really cannot modulate or change the white upper lip portion. only the red. too much risk of scarring, nerve damage etc. if that is your main concern, all bets are off. if the red portion is the issue, i am highly skilled at managing that portion. if the red is mainly the issue, i will see you in consultation. o/w i really cannot help.
best,

Just what I thought regarding modulating the white lip tissue, however perceptions are complex. When I bite, simulating chewing, my upper lip mucosa overlaps and drapes my lower lip mucosa. Perhaps, if this were moderately corrected, then I might not notice the fullness of my upper lip white portion. Anyway, I think it would be beneficial for me to see you in consultation. You have a very good handle on assessing the probable aesthetic results. Neal
