volume loss after ipl burns

Postby elicea » Mon Jun 04, 2012 6:48 am

Hey dr Lam,

I had an ipl treatment ten weeks ago which left me with volume loss directly after the severe swelling went down. I only treated my cheeks and they were very swollen and hurt for two weeks. Even though i only had my cheeks zapped due to rosacea my chin and sides of my mouth now also suffer from dermalatrophy. Yea i was actuallu diagnosed with dermal atrophy from a dermatologist. It is visible to the eye. However i am most concerned about the collagen damage and fat loss in my cheeks. i assume it is fat loss but i wonder if only dermal atrophy and collagen damage can cause the volume to shrink drastically? Also my cheeks feel very loose like there is not enough substance underneath to get structure. Does this sound like real fatloss?
I am 25 and really really hope that i can improve with time and i am doing everything i can as far as destressing etc to try to get healthier and better.
So when it comes to fat grafting how long after volume loss do you recommend the procedure? some say it can improve the over all texture if done earlier on. I myself believe i need to wait to see what happens but it is always helpful to get another opinion:-)

Thanks you in advance.

honestly, i would wait at least a year or until things settle down and stabilize. also, at your age, the risk of fat grafting is that if you gain weight in the future it can look bad. we are talking 20 to 30 pounds. just fyi. also, as far as skin improvements, i think the statement is overrated but there always can be that.
