Botox around lips

Postby brooke » Wed May 23, 2012 12:09 am

Dr. Lam,
I am in my mid 50's but have the upper lip lines of an 80 y/o. I never smoked but do have a tendency to purse and pucker my lips unconsciously.

Before my first and only juvederm treatment (which produced wonderful results that are now unfortunately fading away) my injector prepared my upper lip with botox a few weeks before doing the juvederm procedure.

She said that doing the Botox first around the lips allowed the Juvederm to settle in more evenly.

However, I talked to another office who says they prefer to do the Botox injections AFTER the Juvederm treatment.

Still another office refused to allow Botox around the mouth at all. They say it is too dangerous.

I'm confused. What is your opinion?

Do you think Botox should be used around the mouth?
If so, should it be done before or after the Juvederm procedure?

Thanks so much.

If the lines are early then Botox is very powerful and important. It is treating the cause of the problem not the effect which to me makes much more sense so long as you understand that it is not long lasting (less than 2 months) and it is intended to break the habit more than anything else. There is a slight risk of muting your Ps and Bs and you will not be able to drink from a straw etc., again that would be helpful to break the habits. Timing wise, it does not matter regarding Juvederm. If the lines are really deep, they need dermabrasion. Watch this video:
