Facial volume loss

Postby soxfan74 » Wed May 16, 2012 8:08 pm

Hi Dr. Lam. I have what I believe is an unusual situation that I can't seem to find any answers for from my doctors or the net. I recently went through an extremely stressful period in my life with a nasty divorce and funds being embezzled from my company from a trusted employee. Since that period which began about 6 months ago I've noticed an alarming amount of volume has been lost from my face. I've gone from having a bit of a chubby face to a gaunt face with some pitting in less than 6 months, and haven't lost any overall body weight. I'm only 41 and was aging extremely well until now. My GP says it's probably just due to normal aging, but I assure you it's not normal aging. As a GP he's mainly concerned with his patients overall health, and to me doesn't seem to feel appearance is all that important. Plus I just don't think he's seen or heard of anything like this before. I can often feel my face tingling, almost burning sometimes. I seems to become especially pronounced whenever I'm under any form of stress. I've read on the net that cortisol produced by stress can be a serious destroyer of facial collagen. These last 6 months have been a nightmare, initially because of the personal and business issues, and now because of this situation. It's like I'm caught in a nasty cycle where I stress out over my face, causing me more stress and thus making the condition worse. It's getting to the point where I dread going out in public and am beginning to isolate myself. I did consult with a local plastic surgeon and he noticed the pronounced difference from of now and 6 months ago.. As I've read you are the expert on the face, aging and fat grafting I was wondering if you've ever seen or heard of something like this before. Do you thing fat grafting would help in my case, of would I just burn off that fat like I did the original. Thank you so much for your time, I'm just really at a loss on what to do.

hi,
i wish i could give you a definitive answer but i can't. even though i have seen aging be accelerated due to stress i cannot recall a specific case or the progression of that situation. also, i cannot state whether fat grafting would be further compromised. in short, i do not have a great answer for you.

Hi Soxfan,

I am 42 and I too have this tingling sensation on my face. Strange feeling and I am also wondering if I am losing volume through these sensations.

i know you say doctor that you dont inject fat for young person. But can you do it for temple area and cheekbone (side eye region). If we keep a stable weight for the rest of our life

that can be worse. because with any weight fluctuations if you only do partial faces the face will not blend in well. trust me. not a good idea.
