Mole Removal

Hi, Dr. Lam. I recently saw a dermatologist for this little supposed mole on my forehead. He said it was impossible to remove without leaving a scar, and that scar will probably look worse than the ole, and that scars can never be treated, diminished, etc. Anyway, I was disappointed and a little amazed that all of modern technology is no match for the removal of this small, slightly-raised little mole. My question is, is there really no hope for such a minor thing or do you and others treat moles/scars with success quite frequently?

I always say let the punishment fit the crime. What this means is that if something is very small and not very bad and you take it out by cutting on it you risk a scar that could be worse than the mole itself. In my opinion from what I see I probably would not cut it out. However, even though burning it may not deliver a permanent solution it could shrink the mole and have minimum risk. You could always burn it again down the road if there is a small recurrence. Dermabrasion may be beneficial to finish the job as needed. those are my initial thoughts.

I would have to see them to decide the best course of action.
