I recently had otoplasty about 3.5 weeks ago on 1 ear and am unhappy with the results. First, I know it is too soon to judge, but here is my concern. The doctor used the conchal setback method and I feel like he removed way too much of the conchal bowl.
Before the procedure when he marked my ear, I noted that it seemed like an excessive amount of cartilage to be removed, which he more or less shrugged off. It looks at this point like there is no conchal bowl anymore and kind of like a collapsed/deformed ear.
I saw him in office yesterday and he advised me to push on the back of my ear every day for the next six weeks and more of the conchal bowl will begin to show. He said that after six weeks if I wasn’t happy that he could remove the sutures holding it in place and the concha will pop back out as if there is cartilage pinned down/folded in my ear. He told me that he only removed 3mm of cartilage, but what he marked was basically my entire conchal bowl which is consistent with what my ear looks like now.
My questions are these:
Is what he marked pre-surgery, the area typically removed? Or is that just an outline of the conchal bowl and cartilage is removed from within that marking?
If he removes the sutures (2) will the concha just re-appear? Or is it more likely that he removed more cartilage than he is telling me?
If he in fact just cut out my entire conchal bowl AND I have him remove the sutures and still do not like the results, how difficult is the procedure to graft cartilage and rebuild the concha?
I am at the point where I deeply regret having the procedure and would like to reverse as much as I can. Should I just ask him to remove the sutures and see what it looks like?
