L shaped Silicone Implant Removal

Postby natz86 » Fri Apr 27, 2012 7:46 pm

Hi Dr. Lam,

I'm 7 weeks post-op with placement of an L shaped silicone Implant + alarplasty.

During my first visit I informed my doctor I only wanted a small alarplasty as I wasn't looking for a higher bridge, however he suggested an implant to obtain more harmony and I acccepted his advice. I think he did a good job, it is very conservative, but I'm not an implant person, I don't like having this thing inside and I like my original medium height bridge, and prefer a tip that looks more bulbous because of the nostrils narrowing, than having this implant.

Because I want to remove the implant I asked my doctor what changes did he do, and I was told he did a small alarplasty and just placed the implant through closed rhinoplasty, that he didn't shave the bridge or remove cartilage.

I know each person heals differently, however by your experience in cases alike, could you tell me if:

1) Was the nose able to return to a shape similar to its original?
2) Is it common severe capsule contracture resulting in nose turning upwards?
3) Is the doctor able when examining the nose to predict if it will turn upwards if the implant is removed?

Thank you.

the sooner you remove the implant the higher chance that it will return close to the original shape except of course the alarplasty that is irreversible.
2) Is it common severe capsule contracture resulting in nose turning upwards? no, very rare but possible.
3) Is the doctor able when examining the nose to predict if it will turn upwards if the implant is removed?
no, but it should not if removed earlier than later.

Thank you doctor.

I talked to my surgeon and he said there's no problem with removing it. My appointment is May 10th.

I will post my results in case someone who's going through the same situation needs more reassurance.

Thank you for the extremely quick response :)

Hi,

Sorry for the late update, but I just removed my implant a week ago.

I had the implant for three months. After the removal the skin seems a bit irritated, however everything looks normal again, the nose is narrower because of the alarplasty but nothing really noticeable.

Good luck everyone.
