my chin and jaw implant situation. Pictures included

Postby mmt1986 » Thu Apr 12, 2012 8:07 am

Hi dear Doctor.
Because of a accident at an early age i had some weak chin and facial assymmetry on right side. 4 years ago i had a chin implant which resulted horrible chin (deep hallows at sides- it was a button type implant). So i ve had 3 fat grafting surgeries to correct the hallows and also using fat to lessen the asymmetry (undeveloped right side of my face). Results are not very bad, but still lots of assymmetry and fats are melting unevenly so im looking for a more radical solution. I wanna remove the button type implant and use extended anatomical chin implant and jaw implants to look more solid. What is your suggestion about this,
Thanks a lot

here are my thoughts:
1. asymmetry is almost impossible to fix and when you try to do it, it makes things always unsatisfying. i try my best to help my patients see the futility of this. every consent form that i have says: "The two sides of the body are not the same and can never be made the same." Also, I shot this video many years ago to help my patients stop looking at mild asymmetries. can't find it on this site. but read this blog:

2. since fat is permanent and also it is not easy to know how big your implant is and what it has done to your chin bone in terms of some erosion. also i do not do jaw implants.
in short, i do not think it is worth redoing what you have seeing your photos. that is my honest opinion.
best,

Dear Dr. Lam,

What you told is very important to me, so thanks a lot for your valuable comments. Since it s very difficult to correctly represent the 3D real life with a 40 kb. tinyimage, i noticed no hallows at chin or even no cracked skin is realized on photos ,everything looks much smoother because of optical illusion. Still i want to show another photos directly maybe it can give a better idea by means of fat bulkness at one sight.I want a more solid jawline

I m not a very big symmetry fan. I just want a more balanced and mascular look at jaws. You ve already told me some fat maybe dissolved with mesotheraphy. So do you think i should not use jaw implants after some mesotheraphy maybe. Thanks a lot again,
Mehmet

hi mehmet,
here is the problem, i don't perform mesotherapy or jaw implants so you are really asking the wrong surgeon. we all tend to specialize in certain things and i simply do not do those procedures. i wish i could give you a better answer.
