lip reduction

Postby gary » Tue Apr 10, 2012 7:25 am

Hello Doctor,

My lips are big in size and also I suffer from scabbiness always. So, I've undergone lip reduction surgery recently, but the desired results were not achieved. There's almost no change in the size of lips and still scabbiness is there. In addition it resulted in asymmetry in lower lip. Also, there's still numbness in my lower lip. The surgeon is advising that the procedure can be performed after a gap of three months. I am totally confused and not sure if it is safe to go for the surgery again. Does this affect my nerves in the lips and will there be any side effects? Please advise.

Regards,
Gary

unfortunately, most surgeons do not perform this procedure routinely like me. numbness is common and typically goes away in a few months. if you are interested in my doing it, let me know. i would probably wait 6 months minimum from surgery. that is my policy. i perform a lip reduction several times a week and have done hundreds of them.

Thanks for the reply doctor.
My only concern is will there be any damage to the nerves inside the lips because of repetitive procedures?
I look forward to hearing from you.

i do not know what the previous doctor did but that is always a risk. hopefully, you would not lose any sensation on a permanent basis. i am safe with my surgery but i do not know what the other doctor has done.

yes, i have only done this once with parental support and with maturity on the part of the patient. the case i did was a young African girl who was incessantly teased at school about her lips. I obviously do not want to do something that would be regretted later in life. this would be done on a highly selective case by case basis.

do you have any office on the east coast? I dread general anaesthesia and have heard that local or regional can be used for this procedure. Is this true in your practice?

you can call my office tomorrow when they open after 9 am CDT at 972-312-8188 to schedule a phone consultation with me. there is a charge of $100 but it is applied to the surgery if you proceed. please arrange everything through my office.

over-reduction of the lips when the lips can look and feel too tight and too much gum show. i have not seen this problem in years since i have now done hundreds of cases.

unfortunately, i am one of the few people if not the only person in the world with this level of experience. most of my patients come from new york, new jersey, and florida if not from the other parts of the US and the world.
