Scarring advice

This section of the forum is dedicated to discussions on managing, treating, and correcting acne scarring. (Of note, Dr. Lam is focused principally on acne scarring rather than on managing the ongoing condition of acne, which a dermatologist would be better equipped to address.)

Scarring advice

Postby CB1968 » Sun Apr 01, 2012 6:24 pm

Hi Dr Lam,

I am very impressed with your site.
I have a forehead and temples full of scars of all 3 types(r,ip,boxcar). I am interested in the silicone microdroplets procedure. i like some results i have seen around the internet. is it basically injecting silicone under depressions to lift them up a litle? if so is it possible that with repeated and gradual injections the skin can level out entirely ? also i have a problem, i have some scars, boxcars i think, that are on my forehead crease/wrinkle lines so they are a bit deformed, are u familiar with this? will results still be possible? i am sure you have seen it all.

also, i am confused when you have said that your procedures are different from others in that you try to bring broken tissue up closer to level of unscarred skin as opposed to bringing good tissue down level with bad tissue like others do. what procedures involve bringing good skin down to bad skin level? this seems extreme.

anyway thanks for your time and i hope you can maybe help me. best wishes :)

yes, that is how silicone works. however, it will never get it completely even. acne scars can be improved. they just can't be eliminated. when i am talking about the procedures that abrades your good skin downward (which is how 99% of people do that) i am talking about using dermabrasion (not micro but sanding down the skin) and lasers that knock down the skin. the forehead area may need botox to control the wrinkle contribution to the scar. sometimes you need both botox and silicone or other treatments.
best,

Thank you DR Lam. I have one other question. As stated, my scars mainly lie around my temple and forehead area. As the skin is thinner here, how less likely are good results? Is it possible to get the same level of improvement as you would from a scar located on the cheeks? Or are scars on these thin areas more resistant to improvements? Should I have less expectation of results?
