Hello Dr. Lam,

I am a 30 year old asian male and I have several ice-pick scarring and hypertrophic scarring on my nose. Will kenalog injections help with the bumps on my nose? What can I do for ice-pick scarring?

Also, I would like to make the tip of my nose narrower. Will rhinoplasty at least help with removing the scarring? Is the bumpy tip mainly consisting of scarred tissue and not the actual cartilage?

1. TCA CROSS is about the only thing that will help in my opinion. it will require a few rounds to see some improvement.
2. to "narrow" the nose you would have to build the tip up by using grafts since thick skin really cannot be "narrowed". it is an optical illusion.
3. the skin and the rhinoplasty are separate ideas. scarring and rhinoplasty have nothing to do with each other in terms of benefit.
4. i hate kenalog. it won't help and can cause risk of dermal atrophy (holes in the nose).
