Fat Graft for Thermage damage

This section of the forum is dedicated to discussions on various surgical techniques for facial rejuvenation, including fat transfer/fat grafting, browlift, blepharoplasty (cosmetic eyelid surgery), facelift, etc. Also, this category includes questions on hand rejuvenation via fat grafting. (Of note, Dr. Lam does not perform body rejuvenation except for hand fat grafting)

Fat Graft for Thermage damage

Postby lola » Tue Jan 08, 2008 11:41 pm

Hi there,
I have a couple of questions about fat grafting to repair the accelerating fat wasting as a result of Thermage. My skin also "thinned" as a result of the "treatment"
1)This is probably a dumb question but will the skin layers as you have described still be elastic enough to hold fat?
2) I had more loss n the right side of my face and as a result one tear trough is extremely prominent—is there a way to replace fat to cover the tear trough area?
3) In addition to an overall flattened and uneven look on my cheeks had lots of fat loss around my chin and jaw line. Your posts indicate that parts of the face that move do not hold fat well would these areas fall into that category?
4) The right side of my forehead also had fat loss , so you actually see a depression – anyway to address the forehead area?
Thanks so much I am on the west coast so the more virtual education I can get the better!

Hi,
My responses are provided in all caps following each question:

1)This is probably a dumb question but will the skin layers as you have described still be elastic enough to hold fat?
YES, NO PROBLEM.
2) I had more loss n the right side of my face and as a result one tear trough is extremely prominent—is there a way to replace fat to cover the tear trough area?
YES, TWO THINGS: A. IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO MAKE SOMEONE SYMMETRICAL SO DON'T FOCUS ON THAT. READ MY BLOG IN MY ARCHIVES. B. YES, I DO THAT EVERY DAY. ALSO REMEMBER THAT WOMEN IN PARTICULAR ARE WAY TOO CLOSE TOO A MIRROR MAKING A JUDGMENT ABOUT THEIR FACE. THIS IS A PROBLEM. DON'T MICROMAAGE YOUR FACE.
3) In addition to an overall flattened and uneven look on my cheeks had lots of fat loss around my chin and jaw line. Your posts indicate that parts of the face that move do not hold fat well would these areas fall into that category?
THE CHEEKS ARE FINE. THEY HOLD FAT BEAUTIFULLY. I AM MORE TALKING ABOUT THE LIPS AND LINES AROUND THE MOUTH ARE POOR RECEIPIENTS OF FAT GRAFTING.
4) The right side of my forehead also had fat loss , so you actually see a depression – anyway to address the forehead area?
IF YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT YOUR TEMPLES, YES, I CAN FILL THEM. I TEND TO BE MORE CONSERVATIVE AS YOU CAN EASILY OVERFILL THIS AREA. I HAVE YET TO ENCOUNTER THAT PROBLEM BECAUSE I AM MORE CONSERVATIVE. IF YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT THE FOREHEAD MORE CENTRALLY, IT IS A NO-NO TO FILL. YOU CAN CHECK MY ARCHIVES IN THIS FORUM ON WHY THAT IS.
Best,
SML
