Flopping nostrils

Postby andersonp » Thu Feb 23, 2012 5:23 am

Hi Dr Lam.

I recently got an my alae reduced by a surgeon in california but the outcome was not what i expected.

I wanted to get rid of the subcutaneous fat on the sides of my nostrils. but it turns out that the surgeon removed too much alar tissue and now the sides look as if they had more fat (with smaller nostrils).

while it doesn't look as bad as some other examples i've seen, it's still pretty bad. now the biggest issue i have with this procedure was that my nostrils are now really flopping downwards (giving the illusion of a retracted columella)

is there a way to bring the nostrils a little higher?

i've attached an image here.

basically, my nose looks like the left and ideally i'd love something like the right. no alar reduction, no increase in tip, just the elevating of the nostrils would be more than enough.

thank you for your time dr. lam

Hi Dr. Lam, thanks for getting back to me.

What would you recommend to decrease the floppy nostrils? Is there a way to make the nostrils point upwards?

i don't have a good answer for you. if they are not stiff, alar batten grafts could stiffen them but i would not do that as it may not work and take risk on the changing the nose unfavorably. to rotate the nose, there are many moves that can rotate it up to show the nostrils more but that would depend on someone seeing you in person to evaluate how appropriate those moves would be per se.
