Lip reduction

Postby Pete » Mon Feb 06, 2012 8:37 pm

Hi, Dr Lam. I had my lower lip reduction 7 months ago. Now my left lower lip is thinker than the right, the right is a bit longer. At the right corner of the lower lip is a bit hollow and has a bump at the middle of the left, the right corner is a bit swollen. The inner lip surface looks rough and uneven. Especially, the thickness between the right and left will show the right size is bigger and longer than the other side obviously when it is swollen after I ate. I asked the surgeon when I went back for the follow up three months ago. He explained to me, the bump on my left lip is just a tightened scar tissue that will disappear in the following months. I have been massaging all the scar tissue inside the lip every night since the stitches are healed. I could feel all of the tightened tissue are gone, but there is still a bump on my left lip.
Do you think I need to require for another lip reduction surgery?
The uneven surface inside on theand the bump on my lip, are they normal?

Thank you very much!

all hard to say since i haven't seen you. the bump could be a mucocele that would require excision. further, scar tissue can be softened with 5FU injections if they persist. i typically say most healing for a lip reduction should be complete by 6 months give or take a little persistence beyond that in rare cases.
